With a current membership of around 30 singers, Glasgow Chamber choir was founded in 1994 and has developed into one of Scotland’s finest amateur choirs. The repertoire spans the Rennaissance to the present day and has included the Scottish premiere of James Whitbourn's "Son of God" Mass for mixed voices, organ and soprano saxophone. We were delighted recently to perform James MacMillan's Mass with the composer present. We aim to perform 4 or 5 concerts a year and are available for private performances including weddings and carol concerts.

Director's Welcome

It gives me great pleasure to introduce Glasgow Chamber Choir's programme for 2007-8.

This season we celebrate our new French Connection - our part in the twinning of the cities of Glasgow and Marseilles, where we shall perform during the season. Our first destination, however, is Paris: we shall explore the glorious world of the court of Louis XIV, coupled with moving works by Parisian masters of the twentieth century, Poulenc and Duruflé.
Guest conductor Oliver Rundell takes over for our Christmas concert and a wonderful programme of settings of the 'Song of Songs'. Sometimes known as the 'Song of Solomon', this collection of love poems has inspired composers across the centuries to produce some of their most exotic and heart-felt music.
Our summer concerts focus on the sacred music of Joseph Haydn. His grand Saint Cecilia Mass has been described as "the largest and the most strikingly operatic" of his mass settings - what better way to mark our appearance in Glasgow's West End Festival.
As we prepare to head to France, I hope you will enjoy the variety of music we have to offer you this year, and I look forward to welcoming you to our concerts, in Glasgow or further afield.
