Previous Music Directors:

2004-2005
Andrew Griffiths was music director for one year following which, we are sorry to say, he had to move to London for work reasons.

Andrew Griffiths read music as a Choral Exhibitioner at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge, and studied conducting under Martyn Brabbins and Dr Alasdair Mitchell at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, winning the Hugh S Roberton Prize. He was subsequently awarded the Scottish Opera / RSAMD Joint Répétiteur Fellowship for the 2004-5 season, and was appointed Music Director of Glasgow Chamber Choir. He moved to London in August 2005 to take up a place at the National Opera Studio, where his studies were funded by the Friends of Covent Garden, the Scottish Opera Endowment Trust and the Musicians Benevolent Fund. In September 2006 he will join the Royal Opera's Jette Parker Young Artist Programme as Conductor and Répétiteur.

Andrew has conducted Philip Glass' 1000 Airplanes on the Roof for Paragon Ensemble Scotland, performances of Flavio and Amadigi for Early Opera Company, and worked as assistant conductor for Batignano and BYO. He joined the music staff of Scottish Opera for Bluebeard's Castle, Erwartung, Fidelio, Semele and Tosca, and worked on RSAMD productions of Acis and Galatea, Dido and Aeneas, Falstaff, Idomeneo, L'incoronazione di Poppea, Le nozze di Figaro and The Vanishing Bridegroom. Other work includes répétiteur/continuo The Coronation of Poppea for Opera Theatre Company and celeste for broadcasts and recordings with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He is a former Principal Viola of the National Youth Orchestra and a founder member of early music vocal ensemble Stile Antico.

2000 - 2004
Friđrik (Frikki) Donaldsson-Walker was Music Director of Glasgow Chamber Choir from 2000 until May 2004 when, after (in his own words) "a very special four years of magical music-making", he decided to give up the Music Directorship of the choir to concentrate on other ventures.

Frikki was born in Iceland but spent his formative years as a chorister at Holy Trinity, Southport. In 1985 he gained a degree in Music Performance from RSAMD and went on to win a double prize in the Royal College of Organists’ Choirmasters examinations. Following a spell at Wells Cathedral Choir as Vicar Choral and teacher Friđrik eventually returned to Glasgow for his postgraduate teacher training.
He was appointed Director of Music at St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in 1996.

Frikki's musical taste is very wide incorporating music from the Renaissance to the 21st century.

1994 - 2000
Robert Marshall was co-founder of the choir along with Gordon Smith. He was Chorus Master of Edinburgh Royal Choral Union.
